Storage using a Ballot Box

Christmas is on the way.  I am a fan of Christmas but I’m not a fan of feeling overrun with toys.  So I am a storage fanatic. I’m always on the look out for cool things to use as storage.CIMG3832

There are a lot of car toys in my house.  Not really sure where they all come from, I know some come from presents and some from hand me downs.  Other cars get picked up on the way…….. they are always needed in our main living room as they get played with a lot!

Storing toys in a tasteful way is challenging.  I want my kids to have easy access to their toys, however I don’t want a house that looks like a toy shop.  There is no way that I am going to buy plastic storage.  I hate plastic, and I find it incredible that CIMG3833there are whole shops dedicated to selling plastic boxes.  So you can imagine how excited I was to find this old wooden ballot box, complete with lock and key. Found at the local recycling store, next to the tip.  It looks to be built around 1940.  It still has it’s old writing and stamp.  The guys at the tip shop wrote it’s price on the gorgeous old label ($8- bargain right!) but I now find that endearing.

CIMG3834The box fits perfectly underneath my church pew and the kids open it at least a dozen times throughout the day.  Sometimes I watch them just opening and closing the lock with the key many times over.

I would love to here from anyone who has found something different for a storage option.  Please tell me about it below.
